Meet Karre Mastanamma, The Eldest Woman YouTuber…
She is 107 years old and she is an Indian. Meet Karre Mastanamma, a grandmother who is a YouTube sensation. A native of Andhra Pradesh, Mastanamma was born Martamma in a village Kopalle in Andhra Pradesh. She was adopted by a Muslim family as they didn’t have a daughter. They named her Mastanamma. But she didn’t stay with the new family for long and returned backto her village.
Karre was married off at the age of 11 and became a widow by 22. Unfortunately, she lost four of her children to epidemic that hit her village Guduvada in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The fifth and the oldest one, David lost his eyesight.
The gritty woman has been living independently all her life, stayed in a hut and cooked her own food despite her relatives living around. She worked in paddy fields till she turned 105 years old and until her great grandson started a YouTube channel featuring her recipes. On her channel Country Foods, Karre Mastanamma has garnered some 1M subscribers to-date. The channel features traditional foods – both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Karre Laxman, Karre’s great grandson uploaded videos of bachelors cooking food by themselves, but in vain. When he uploaded Mastanamma’s recipes, within days, the video reached 1 lakh views.
What’s different in Mastanamma recipes?
She uses an open wooden stove and uses dried leaves and firewood for fuel. She cooks everything from omelette to emu eggs to chicken with sorrel leaves. She adds a traditional touch to everything which is a rare thing to find these days.
For instance, if you want to make chicken biryani like her, cook it in smoked bamboo. Also she makes curries using lamb intestines. Now, isn’t that interesting and amazing?
Her most popular videos till date is – watermelon chicken and egg in tomato. The former has reached 10 million views on internet.
No wonder then, the woman has become a YouTube sensation. Talent has no criteria, certainly not age. Karre Mastanamma proves it!!
