What Fingernails Reveal About Your Health?
We pay a little attention to our nails unless picking off a nail polish or cutting them. You will be surprised to know that your fingernails can actually reveal about your health and wellness. A colour change, bumps in the nail, white spots or brittle nails may be a sign of a disease in the body.
Read on to learn the secrets that your nails might reveal–
Are your nails yellow (pale)? No need to panic right away. This could be a sign of ageing or a stain from a harsh nail paint. Sometimes vitamins and mineral deficiency can also lead to nails appearing yellow. If the yellow colour doesn’t fade away, there’s a chance that something else is going in your body. In more severe cases it can be a sign of thyroid condition, diabetes, psoriasis or an infection.
Dry, Cracked Or Brittle Nails
Ladies, there could be a few reasons as to why you could be experiencing dry, cracked or rippled nails.
- Ageing –This could be one of the major reasons for this condition. When we get older we lose natural oils that are essential for keeping the nails intact, thereby leading to dry and cracked nails.
- Lifestyle-It directly impacts the condition of your nails. If your hands are constantly in the water like cleaning dishes or are exposed to chemicals, this will deteriorate the quality of your nails.
- Disease or Deficiency-Fungal infections, thyroid disease or deficiency of vitamins A, C and B could be a cause of dry, cracked or brittle nails.
Clubbing is a condition when the tips of your nails are curved downwards. It is usually a sign of low oxygen, liver disease, AIDS or an inflammatory bowel disease.
This could be due to medical problems related to kidney, liver, heart or lung. The red or black marks on the nail could be a result of blood clotting under the nail.
Well! White spots may not look pleasing but they are nothing to be too concerned about. They occur mostly due to calcium deficiency or fungal infection. Whatever be the reason white spots on fingernails are temporary and will grow out as your nails grow.
No wonder with the use of nail paints you can give a bright coloured coat to your nails, but this way you could be concealing something worse. Be alert and don’t ignore these signs!
