Ditching A Glass Of Wine For The Sake Of Healthy Living. Study States !!
You can increase your life expectancy by ditching that daily glass of wine by 20 percent as it has been proved by researchers. Studies have been carried out by the researchers of Washington University School of Medicine in the US in this field. They have disclosed that health risks such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer overpower the earlier assumed health benefits.Earlier everyone thought that having a drink or two per day was not a big deal. But new studies are coming up that show that even the light daily drinkers are exposed to mortality risks.
With regard to cancer risk, any amount of drinking is adverse. A new study has emerged following a recent research which was published in “The Lancet”- One of the oldest weekly medical journals. It stated that five standard 175ml glasses of wine or five pints a week is an upper safe limit – about 100g of alcohol in total. Drinking more than that can raise the risk of stroke, fatal aneurysm, heart failure, and death.
According to a study, every glass of wine or pint of beer over the daily recommended limit cuts half an hour from the expected lifespan of a 40-year-old. One leading scientist has also said that the risks for a 40-year-old, drinking over the recommended daily limit was equivalent to smoking.
Effects on Body:
Drinking can also affect brain’s ability to retain long-term memories. It also reduces the ability to think clearly thus affecting our ability to make rational choices. Excess drinking habit can result in frontal lobe damage. This area of brain is responsible for emotional control, short-term memory, and judgment, in addition to other important roles.
Severe alcohol abuse can also cause permanent brain damage that may become chronic. This can cause Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, a brain disorder affecting memory.
Alcohol also increases the sugar level in blood. It affects pancreas that helps to regulate your body’s insulin. Due to ill-functioning of pancreas and liver, you run the risk of experiencing low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia. A damaged pancreas also prevents a body from producing insulin that utilizes sugar.
This can turn into a condition called hyperglycemia in which sugar levels exceed the normal limits in the blood. But generally drinking alcohol is bad for everyone regardless of their age. They should not be drinking at any age. Alcohol weakens the immune system and deprives the body of essential nutrients.
