She Has Many Feathers In Her Hat – Meet Gick Garewal
“All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players.”
Theatre is the greatest art form. Why, because it’s a place where an artist puts his heart and soul into a character that makes people see the truth about life and social situations. The artist does not wear a mask and hides, rather exposes himself in front of a large number of audiences.
Gick Garewal is a theatre artist, costume designer and runs Chandigarh’s very first costume company. She is a versatile person who does not believe in mastering one art form. From a young age, Mrs. Garewal kept her focus on many things because she believes that human beings are multi-talented and can pursue many things at the same time.
Flair for performing on stage, Gick participated in many school functions. Later, she pursued MA in Music Vocal, participated in youth festivals from Chandigarh zone and represented Punjab University for three consecutive years.
Currently, Gick Garewal is working under the mentorship of nationally as well as internationally acclaimed Theatre Director, Neelam Mansingh. So far, Gick has been a part of many festivals around the world where other artists such as Shabana Azmi, Amol Palekar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda has also participated.
Gick says that it always feels good when we are offered a role, especially when you get a chance to work with a good director. She also shared her memories from “Yerma” play where she played a role of 50-year-old women who is full of life.
Along with acting, Gick also runs a successful costume company that provides high-quality dresses for school and college functions as well as for film shooting. She has also designed costumes for TV shows, films and advertisements.
Gick Garewal is not only a great artist but also a dog lover. When KittyBee’s team reached her residence, they were greeted by not one or two but four dogs. She adopted three dogs from her previous residential area and got them to her new home. Isn’t that lovely?
